I was just a little boy when Richard Nixon resigned (link to related eBay auctions). I didn't understand Watergate, and frankly, as an 8 year old, I didn't much care.
Later, when I became interested in the history of the era, I was struck by President Nixon's resignation speech. There's one line in particular that is especially poignant. He said, "...greatness comes when you are really tested, when you take some knocks, some disappointments, when sadness comes, because only if you have been in the deepest valley can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain."
To me, that was The Nixon Stand.
