I found this authentic school hall pass tucked inside an old school book from the same time period.
More than a million hall passes have probably been written over the past century. I'll bet very few have survived as long as this example dated 5-9-61.
I hope this pass brings back memories of your school days, when getting a hall pass granted you the rare privilege of wandering your school's corridors. Whenever I was issued such a pass, it gave me an eerie, uneasy sense of quasi-freedom. Even now, I can recall the sound of my squeaky gym shoes echoing down the empty halls of Maine East High School as I passed classroom after classroom filled with trapped, undocumented schoolmates.
Do they even issue passes like this anymore?
