On December 24, 1925, a man named C. A. Will sent this photograph as a Christmas greeting to Lawrence Dennis, the Honorable Secretary of the United States Legation in Honduras. On the back of the photo, C.A. Will signed a typewritten note wishing the diplomat (and soon-to-be famous author), "a merry Christmas and a happy New Year, 1926."
The 5 1/2" x 3 1/2" photograph shows the United States Marines Arriving at Tegucigalpa, the capital of the Republic of Honduras in March 1924. The Marines were sent, in part, to protect the American Legation in Honduras during a time of particularly troublesome political turmoil in the country.
The marines did their job and the American Legation remained, unharmed, in Honduras to enjoy a relatively uneventful Christmas in 1925.
