A lot of people don't know that Charlotte, North Carolina, is the 2nd largest banking center in the U.S. (behind New York, of course). We're home to Bank of America and Wachovia.
I'm not sure if either of these big banks were headquartered in Charlotte back when this vintage issue of The Tarheel Banker magazine went to press in 1967. Was Charlotte even on the map in 1967?
Being a banking center isn't really all that exciting. And that has a lot to do with the quiet and staid culture here. Charlotte is one of those cities that you wouldn't want to visit, but it's a great place to live.
So, hats off to the Tarheel Bankers who've made Charlotte the tidy and terrific town it is today.
