1942 was a very good year for the Atchison, Topica, and Santa Fe Railroad. With the war in Europe raging, the venerable AT&SF saw an 88 percent rise in passenger traffic and a huge upsurge in freight.
This ticket was purchased on October 24, 1942, for use on October 28. The passenger traveled in a parlor car 790, seat number 11. And he dutifully kept his passenger's check.
What was meant to last only a few days, has now survived for more than 60 years and remains in the condition it was issued.
All aboard!
