Lenny Bruce: Things That Are Jewish
While reading Albert Goldman's Lenny Bruce biography, I was reminded of Lenny's classic routine about things that are Jewish and things that are Goyish. Lenny would say Count Basie is Jewish, Ray Charles
is Jewish, Eddie Cantor
is Goyish. That sort of thing. Or his classic: pumpernickel is Jewish, white bread is Goyish.
My wife and I sometimes play the Jewish/Goyish game while on a long drive. We're both Jewish. It's a lot of fun.
Anyway, I was thinking about brands--not as being either Jewish or Goyish--but as reflecting my personality or not.
Take this vintage ad for Colgate. Not me. I'm Crest.
Coke not Pepsi. White Sox not Cubs.
Here are a few more me/not me brands:
Guinness not Bud.
Wachovia not Bank of America.
Warner Brothers not Disney.
What brands are you?
