Muhammad Ali Candy - Crisp Crunch Wrapper

In yesterday's post, I featured an interview with candy wrapper collector, Darlene Lacey. She'd sent me a number of examples from her collection, including this one. There wasn't enough room to feature it in the interview post, so I set it aside to feature today.

Muhammad Ali holds a special place in my heart. For a brief time, my dad worked in the same Polk Brothers store (or maybe it was Sears) on the southside of Chicago as Ali's brother. My dad has a Polaroid photo of Ali and his brother in the store. The Champ is holding a guitar in his hands, and my 5'5" tall father is standing between the two giant men. Ali's signature graces the back of the picture.

It's a striking image--the Heavyweight Champion of the World, his brother, and my dad all standing the middle of a department store on Chicago's southside in 1969.
