Ephemera Discovery Trims Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest
Stop the presses! According to the Major League Eating Web site, a recent discovery of mysterious "documentation found among numerous old items and ephemera in Brooklyn" has led the MLE to shorten the historic Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest by two minutes.
According to a tersely worded note on the MLE site, the ephemera suggests that the original hot dog eating contest was only 10 minutes in duration, not 12 minutes as is currently the practice on Coney Island. Based on the findings, the MLE has decided to conduct all qualifying rounds of the 2008 multi-city Nathan's Famous circuit tour as 10-minute competitions.
