An original Boston Harbor Artillery muster roll for Captain William F. Hobart's Company of U.S. Regiment of Light Artillery for the period of March and April, 1819, is being auctioned on eBay.
According to the seller, the muster roll contains 65 names of officers, musicians, artificers and matross's. According to the dictionary, a matross is a gunner or a gunner's mate; one of the soldiers in a train of artillery, who assisted the gunners in loading, firing, and sponging the guns.
