An important Jubilee Singers broadside, circa 1870's, for the Norfolk Jubilee Singers from Norfolk Virginia, "A Genuine Slave Band," is being offered on eBay. According to the auction listing, the broadside has depictions of six of the former slaves in the center as well as a depiction of life on a Southern Plantation when they were slaves.
The broadside states they are genuine colored people, emancipated by President Lincoln's great Proclamation of freedom. Formerly slaves, they give the best and truest pictures of slave life on the plantations of the south, etc. A Capt. F G Brayton is listed as manager and C. D. Stevens as General Agent—the admission was 15 cents with reserved seats being 25 cents. The back of the item has a listing of 90 songs from which the singers will select for that particular performance.
