A book containing the minutes of the Wall Street Beneficial Club
, an African-American fraternal group organized on March 1, 1920, is up for auction on eBay.
According to the seller, the purpose of the club was to pay sick and death claims and to help brothers in need or distress. Officers were elected on March 1, 1920. The body voted that the joining fee would be $1 for sixty days. The date for meetings was voted to held on the 1st and 4th Monday nights each month at 8:30pm. Dues were set at $.50 monthly, sick benefits would be $4 for the first three weeks, $3 for the next three weeks, $2 for the next 2 weeks and $1 as long as the member remained sick. Death benefits were set at $50. This book records minutes from March 1, 1920 thru Aug 17, 1925. There are 196 pages of recorded minutes.
