This eBay listing is for what the seller believes is "a very rare painting of George Washington as a Mason." According to the listing, the painting dates to the early 19th century, somewhere between 1880-1850. The painting is signed lower left.
The seller continues, "The painting is encased in a carved wood frame. As you can see from the photographs the frame is also Masonic. The painting shows George Washington in Masonic regalia standing in between two Masonic pillars. The All Seeing Eye is above his head along with other Masonic celestial symbols. This painting is oil on board. The frame is really special. The major device decorating the frame is a Masonic compass. There are many other Masonic symbols on the frame including the trowel, Holy Bible, hourglass, etc."
As loyal readers will recall, upon his death, my grandfather left me a Masonic scroll that was previously unknown to me.
