A rare group of six American seaman's newspapers called "The Sheet Anchor"
has come ashore on eBay.
According to the seller, the newspapers were published at the Boston Sailor's Home, Boston, Massachusetts, May to Sept, 1844, with front page illustrated of a large sailing schooner.
The Sheet Anchor included news of the U.S. Navy Frigate USS Cumberland, Nantucket whalers, The Mariners Church at Fort Hill, Seaman's Friend Society reunion, etc. The shipping news section included mentions of the U.S. Navy Frigate USS Constellation, temperance efforts shipboard, New Bedford Massachusetts whaling ship news, shipwreck disasters, roster of "Mariners Churches," Maine to Virginia, list of "Sailor's Boarding Houses", etc.
Each issue is 8-pages and was published by Jonathan Howe, Boston.
