Up for bidding on eBay, where the action on this item is hot and heavy, comes this Thelonious Monk 1964 original signed concert program.
The seller explains the unique history of this rare item, "Jan van Gelder was a VIP driver that drove the stars that famous Dutch Concert promotor Paul Acket booked for Holland. Thelonious Monk was in Holland to perform the 15 February 1964 concert at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. He was kind enough to give Jan this signed concert program. Dutch Collector's Society acquired the van Gelder collection."
My Great Uncle, the inventor of the Stonelined Mute, spoken of in this blog before, on friendly terms with Thelonious, would sometimes refer to my Great Aunt as "Monk." She survives my Uncle and is now 94 years old.
