Antique Department Store Catalog Download Available from Green Paper Packages

It's finally ready! My friend Marty Weil from the Ephemera blog found an amazing 1914 catalog from the Charles Williams Department Store in New York City for me. I've collected over 150 of the pages into one image collection - The Antique Catalog Assortment.

There's a great mix of clothing, furniture, shoes, housewares and accessories - and over 3 dozen of the pages are in color.   

If you like to use figures of women in your art, about 60 of the pages show dresses, suits, unmentionables, etc. (6 in full color) There are also pages for hats, shoes, stockings and more.

There's so much detail on the pages and so much cool imagery and historical information, it's one of those collections you'll use again and again, for figures, backgrounds and accents.

7-11 Slurpee Cups Marvel Comics Characters 1975

The summer of 1975 was probably the height of my slurpee binging. At 10 years of age, I probably consumed at least one 7-11 slurpee a week at the outlet on Dempster in Morton Grove, Illinois. Although, I never really enjoyed the drink; it was for the love of the cups that I quaffed that nasty concoction. However, unlike the seller of this lot of 7-11 Slurpee Marvel Character Cups from 1975, I didn't save a single cup for future profit. And I distinctly remember drinking out of the Hulk cup, even though it was 35 years ago.

Muhammad Ali Poster First Round Knock-Out of Sonny Liston 1965

This image of Ali towering over a defeated Sonny Liston is my all-time favorite sports-related vintage poster.

I've mentioned my fondness for Ali in several previous posts, but this is the first time I've featured this particular vintage image, which, by the way, received 4.7 out of 5 stars in reviews on allposters.com.

I've seen this poster before, but never with the white on black reverse type description. It's a nice touch. It provides the date and a little historic context. Instead of just the image, you get a brief, but necessary narrative. A cool value-add to what is already a killer poster.

I rate it 5 stars.

Bungie Original Halo Concept Art Master Chief Helmet

My favorite video game of all time is Halo, so it no surprise that I'm excited to feature the original Halo concept art of the Master Chief's Helmet.

The ink and marker drawing, currently up for bid on eBay, is by artist Eddie Smith.

The seller of this item is the game developer Bungie. The company says, "These concept pieces represent the characters, places, and artifacts that populate Bungie's universe in their most primordial form, serving as the foundational ideas that paved the way to the finished work. They are all original, one of a kind works of art. It is our hope that they will be as cherished by a collector as they have been by our studio."

Ephemera Value Appriasals Handled by Qualified Appraisers

From the volume of comments I get about the value of obscure ephemera, I should have gone into the appraisal business. Sadly, I'm not qualified to offer my opinion on the dollar value of your ephemera or appraise its worth, but, the good news is there are dozens of very skilled appraisers that will do just that. The trouble is they sometimes make themselves awfully difficult to find online. Reproduction Concert Posters Can Fill Collection Void

Reproductions can help fill an impossible void in your collection. For instance, an original copy of this 1961 Bob Dylan poster at Carnegie Hall, in mint condition, would cost plenty, but, the reproduction can be purchased for under $30 through Allposters.com. While it is always better, from a collectibles standpoint, to own an original, a reproduction can be a welcome addition until you're able to afford the real thing.
