Up for bid on eBay is for a folder that contains 10 loose standard size real photo postcards that illustrate the construction of Celilo Canal, which was constructed between 1905 and 1915 by the US Army Corps of Engineers.
The seller says, "...Celilo Canal enabled steamboats using the Columbia River to bypass Celilo Falls and the rapids below the falls. Prior to the construction of the canal, river traffic had to portage around the falls. The lower entrance to Celilo Canal was near The Dalles, Oregon, and the upper entrance was several miles upstream just above Celilo Falls. Along with Celilo Falls, Celilo Canal was inundated by The Dalles Dam in 1956. This folder was printed by Wesley Andrews of Baker, Oregon, a noted postcard photographer in his own right. The folder was published by Gerald L. Massey of 'Big Eddy', Oregon, which was the precise location of the lower locks. I have been told that Benjamin Gifford of The Dalles took the photos, but I see no evidence of that on the cards today, so that may have been a misunderstanding."
