Millions of WWII Veterans received an official set of documents like these when the war ended and they were released back into civilian life.
I imagine that millions of these records were carefully stored and moved from house-to-house over the course of a lifetime. With so many from The Greatest Generation leaving us now, these records are finally being cast away, as this set was, to the trash. It's a little sad, but inevitable.
Through that process, and with the sweep of time, they'll become increasingly hard to find collectibles. I'll hold on to this set of records. Maybe you'll do the same with your grandfather's documents. Among the few of us who care, there will be survivors for later.
For anyone else out there with military records that aren't yet collectable, but don't mean anything to you, check with your local archives (historical society, museums) and make sure they wouldn't like them. Another angle is if the service person had a specialized job (like a doctor, or pilot, mechanic) as there are lots and lots of museums dedicated to the history of certain branches, specializations, also individual units.
