I can already feel the heat beginning to build; it's going to be another hot summer in Charlotte. Along with some Southern Iced Tea, a whirling air conditioner makes the balmy days in the Piedmont tolerable.
Westinghouse put out this promotional brochure back when air conditioning was still a novelty, but I'll bet their salesmen didn't have to work up much of a sweat selling AC units in the QC.
There's an intensity to the sun here that was unknown to me in my days growing up in Chicago. While Chicago summers were often stifling and suffocating affairs, the sun here seems to burn with more ferocity. Maybe it's the angle of sun or maybe it's all in my transplanted Northerner's head.
