I’m always amazed at the documents and other printed ephemera that were once thought lost forever. And beyond all odds, are unearthed. One wonders how many treasures remain hidden. When I drive by a creepy old house in the middle of nowhere—long abandoned to the kudzu and vines—I think about the historically significant documents or collectible papers that are stored in the attic or basement. Or worse, what might have once been reachable and now lays destroyed by mice or water damage.
Certainly, there is a priceless treasure waiting to be discovered in the bottom of a lonely box in some dark attic right now! Is it another priceless original copy of the Declaration of Independence or the elusive Last Will & Testament of Howard Hughes. I’m always green with jealously when I hear about a discovery of a similar magnitude that was made with the slightest effort by someone ‘just cleaning out Grandma’s attic.’
It’s always been my dream to spend my days-- dusty boxes and cobweb filled places--hunting for these treasures left untouched for decades or centuries.
Maybe someday I’ll have the freedom and pluck to do so.
