My friends over at Harper Collins sent me a fascinating new book by Jeffery Hantover called The Jewel Trader of Pegu: A Novel (P.S.).
It's part travelogue, part love story, and part philosophical discourse on humanity, according to a review in the St. Petersburg Times.
Jeffery Hantover has written extensively on social issues, art, and culture for international publications, and this is his first novel. I'm alway eager to provide a spot her on ephemera to showcase new books, especially when they touch on the subject at hand. Although this is further afield than most, I was happy to take a look at it at the invitation of Harper Colllins, a publishing house I admire.
One review on Amazon had this to say about the novel: "Jeff Hantover took me along on the best literary road trip I've been on in memory. From the first pages, the reader is there in the moment with the main character, Abraham, as the young man steps off the boat and is drawn into the exotic, slightly creepy, utterly sensual kingdom of Pegu."
