A rare, railroad document
--a legal agreement between the Knightstown and Shelbyville Railroads--signed by two railroad tycoons, H.B. Hill and John S. Newman. The document is dated March 1, 1855.
According to the listing the document deals with the removal of one depot and relocation of tracks for the joint use of another depot building in Knightstown, Indiana.
I thought the seller had made a mistake - I know about James Jerome Hill the railroad tycoon, but I knew of no H. B. Hill. I still don't. I think he's making a mistake calling H. B. Hill a tycoon, but that's just me.

You're probably right about the name, but there's a chance that another Hill--perhaps a relative--could have been working under James and signed this doc. As far as "tycoon", I think that is a euphemistic word associated with railroad bosses--not something that is necessarily indicative of their status in the more general sense of the word tycoon. But, that's just me.
